My primary interest is fiber. I use a variety of media, ranging
from traditional to high-tech, to describe a world that speaks
at once about the microcosm and the macrocosm, with fiber as
the connecting theme. Metaphors involving fiber have been used
throughout time and in numerous cultures to explain beliefs
about creation and life. These creation myths intrigue me:
the weaving of the cosmos and the weaving of body tissue; the
spinning of the universe and the spinning of a thought. Such
myths and metaphors are the major inspiration behind my on-going
investigation into fiber. I am interested in these ancient
and symbolic meanings and how the Truths from the past can
be represented and made relevant in contemporary contexts.
My search is for a visual image to show the connections between
the physical and the metaphysical, exploring notions of interconnection,
ultimately linking the corporeal to the spiritual, and making
the invisible threads visible.
I have more recently started using fiber in a playful dancing series which I will be posting shortly... |
